Five new MOUs signed between Sri Lanka and Philippines
The bilateral discussions between President Maithripala Siriarna and the President of Philippines Rodrigo Duterte were held during the official visit of the Sri Lankan President to the Philippines. This was held at the President’s office in Maniala. The two countries signed MOUs in the presence of the leaders.
The first document which was signed is the MOU between the two countries to increase the defence cooperation between the two countries. The secretary of the department of national security, Delfin.N.Lorenzana signed the MOU on behalf of the Philippine government and Minister of Foreign Affaira, Tilak Marapana signed the document on behalf of Sri Lankan government.
The MOU for uplifting the cooperation of two countries in the field of tourism was signed by the Secretary of Department of tourism of Philippines, Bernadette Romulo Puyat and it was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tilak Marapana on behalf of the Sri Lankan Government.
A new MOU was signed to uplift the Agricultural cooperation between the two countries. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tilak Marapana signed on behalf the Sri Lankan government while the Assistant Secretary of Philippines Department of Agriculture, Waldo Cerpro signed the agreement on behalf of Philippines.
It is significant that the MOU on cooperation in agriculture was signed today before President Maithripala Sirsena, who visited Manila as the Minister of Agriculture Development and Govi Jana Sewa in 2008 and engaged in discussion with the Secretary of Agriculture of Philippines other senior officials regarding signing of an MOU to enhance bilateral cooperation in agriculture. Today, as President, he discussed further strengthening of cooperation with the Philippine President.
Another MOU was signed to uplift cooperation in the field of education. The Sri Lankan Ambassador for Philippines, Aruni Ranaraja signed the document on behalf of Sri Lanka and the Head of Higher Education Commission of Philippines, Prof. E.D.Vera signed it on behalf of Philippines.
The Sri Lankan Agricultural Research Policy Council and the University of Los Barnes of Philippines signed an agreement on the cooperation in Agricultural Technology. The objective of this is to open opportunities for post graduate studies for the scientists of National Agricultural Research Institute. The Sri Lankan Ambassador for Philippines Aruni Ranaraja and the Chancellor of University of Los Barnes of Philippines, Dr. Fernando. C. Sanchez signed this agreement.
